Indian River Lagoon Coast Fishing Report, March 3, 2017

Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Low Sodium and Sodium Early March Fishing Report

My fishing adventures this past week have included both sodium (Mosquito Lagoon) and low sodium (St Johns River) fishing adventures.

In the Mosquito Lagoon (high Sodium) the water levels are up due to recent rainfall and the water remains clean in all of the areas I fished last week. As a result, access to shoreline areas has improved and both redfish and larger sea trout were found in close to the shoreline. All fish caught this week were on 4-inch DOA jerk baits rigged weedless, and as you can see in the photos, sea grass has returned to some areas of the Lagoon.

On the St Johns River (low sodium), the water levels have also increased with some very respectable largemouth and sunshine bass being caught. Although the water levels have increased this week, the bite was a little tougher. We still managed to catch some very respectable fish on the same lures use in the Mosquito Lagoon, the 4-inch DOA Shad tails and jerk baits fished in areas of schooling fish. Again like my last fishing report the thread fin shad are as heavy as I have ever seen and the bass are so fat and happy they are a challenge to catch.

All in all the fishing has been great this week, and I love living in Florida where every season in fishing season.

As always, if you need information, have any questions or would like to book a charter, please contact me.

Good luck and good fishing,

Captain Tom Van Horn
