St Johns River and Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report
My fishing adventures thus far in February have covered a wide spectrum of opportunities from freshwater American shad and crappie fishing to targeting redfish, black drum and sea trout on the Mosquito Lagoon. As always when fishing in Central Florida in February, weather fronts can make catching challenging with windy and cloudy conditions.
St Johns River Fishing
On the freshwater side of things, rising water levels on the St Johns River and the Econ creek have made the American shad fishing inconsistent. One day you will catch over 20 fish and the next you will catch 2. The 2019 American shad run has not been as good as I hoped, but we are still catching fish. Thus far in February my focus has been the Econ region of the river, and I think it is time to move south (upstream) to the Puzzle Lake and HWY 50 stretch of the river. Crappie fishing has also been challenging in the same region of the river where I have had limited success thus far.
Mosquito Lagoon Saltwater Report
On the saltwater side, I have had some good days and some great day this month fishing mostly on the north end of the Mosquito Lagoon where cleaner water clarity exist. The sea trout and redfish bite has been good, but mostly small fish. As you can see from my photo gallery, we have also had success in finding and catching some trophy size redfish and black drum which will defiantly put a smile on an anglers face.
For the remainder of the week I have freshwater charters scheduled, but I'm planning on venturing out of Port Canaveral targeting tripletail and cobia once the seas settle down. I also have some availability next week if you would like to join me on the water.
