This Week's Report
Although I was off of the water most of last week, my focus was still on fishing as I attended the ASA's 2013 ICAST Convention in Las Vegas. As usual for this time of year, Vegas was very hot and dry, 119 degrees when I landed, but the excitement of seeing what's new in the fishing tackle industry and many old friends made the trip very rewarding. Fire Fighters were also busy all week fighting the Carpenter One Fire in the mountains west of Vegas.
There were many new innovations introduced in the New Products Showcase, but the one I found most intriguing was the Microwave Guides by American Tackle in Oviedo, Florida, which by the way won the Best of Show. I know this unique guide system looks like a gimic, but after testing the new system I was convinced. We will be field testing this new line control system at Mosquito Creek Outdoors in Apopka on Thursday, July 25th at 6:00 pm, so come out and test it for yourself. To check out the other New Product Showcase winners follow the link to the ASA's press release.
Back on the water, we are still catching some quality black drum and redfish as the water quality is showing some improvement. There have also been some good reports of seatrout and ladyfish in the Indian River and Banana River Lagoons.
Last week I was blessed with my favirote type of charter, instilling lifetime memories in the minds of young anglers.
As always. if you have any questions or need more information, please contact me.
Good luck and good fishing,
Captain Tom Van Horn
