Central Indian River Lagoon

Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Indian River Report-Sebastian Area

Sorry I have not submitted a report for a while. I have been battling a long-term illness that has kept me from doing everything I would like to do. At this point I am feeling well and getting out more, so I hope to report on a weekly basis again as I have in the past. I thank you all for sticking with me during my absence.

The first really cold weather has reached the treasure coast of Florida and with it have come cooler water temps. As usual, this has made the fishing for jacks and ladyfish pretty good in the lagoon and Sebastian River. These fish are not much to eat, but they sure are fun to catch on light tackle. Suspending crystal minnows and jigs and twister tails have produced some great action in deeper water around the monument and up the river. Trout and reds are still available but the action has slowed with the cooler water. Look in the deeper water areas for small trout and lots of them. Use small jigs with plastics or free-line live shrimp. Don’t stop fishing the shallows just yet, especially in the afternoons on sunny days. Big trout and reds are still active in these areas and are taking jerk baits, SOF spoons, and yes, top-water plugs worked slowly. Dark bottoms (i.e., grass) are areas to look for so keep searching. Areas to fish are the channels in the Wabasso area and the flats around Sebastian and Grant.

The long-term forecast, for what it is worth, shows more cold weather on the way, so things may change dramatically if water temps continue to drop. Stay tune, and as always, Tight-Lines to all.

Sincerely,

Capt. Ron
