Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
Indian River Report - Sebastian Area
The past week or so has seen some pretty consistent fishing when the wind was not too strong. This past week I fished a day with Drake and his dad Scott from my home state of Wisconsin, and for four days with Steve and Lois Smith from North Carolina. Drake caught a great 8 lb trout, and Steve and Lois caught no less than 12 different species from blue fish to tarpon. After three days of hits and misses, Lois finally caught her first nice trout on top-water. Way to go Lois! The fishing should continue to be good as long as the water temps stay between 70 and 80 degrees. The larger fish (trout to 9 lbs. And reds to 20 lbs.) have been active in very shallow water, while the smaller fish have been in 2-3 feet of water. I have been taking fish on top-water plugs, jigs and tails, jerk baits, and live mullet depending on what species and habitat is being fished. The period around high tide has produced the most consistent action, but we have been catching fish throughout the day. Not much else to say except get out there and fish. The months of March, April, and May provide some of the best conditions for catching large fish. You won’t catch the numbers, but if you want larger fish concentrate on shallow water around a foot deep. You will be surprised how big of a fish will forage in only a few inches of water.
Until next time,
Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
