Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon Fishing Report-Sebastian Area for June 10, 2002
Capt. Ron Bielefeld’s Indian River Lagoon fishing report – Sebastian Area, for the week of June 9th, 2002. The early morning trout fishing remains good. The biggest trout have been taken over shallow grass (1.5 ft. of water) and along mangrove shorelines. Areas with a lot of bait have been holding fish up until 9am or later if with the clouds keep the sun from heating things up early. A rapidly retrieved top-water plug has been the top producer – pun intended. When there is a lot of bait, working the plug quickly with maximum noise output attracts the attention of fish concentrating on all the real food in the area. Once the shallow flats cool off fishing wise, and heat up temperature wise, deep areas along the edges of the flats, islands, and mangroves have produced trout on jigs and jerk baits. On Saturday, Jace Albury of Palm Bay, FL landed one of the larger trout taken on the Tight-Lines, a 29” fish that went about 9-10 lbs. This fish was found inhabiting some mangroves.
A few snook also have been out on the flats early and late in the day. They have taken top-water plugs as well. Most of the snook are coming around islands and mangroves, not a lot of them, but the fish that have been hitting our jerk baits have been in the 22-25” range. Redfish have been tough to come by of late, but they are out there, it is just a matter of time before we find them again.
Until Next Time - Tight-Lines to All,
Sincerely, Capt. Ron
