Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon Report - Sebastian Area
Well, pardon the long break between reports, but I was in Scotland for 12 days and then promptly got sick upon return. However, I am back on the water and the fishing has been good. Trout, snook, reds, snapper, grouper, jacks, ladyfish, and some tarpon have been providing some great action when the tide and time of day is right. There is a lot of bait in the lagoon as the annual fall bait migration proceeds. The first few hours after high tide have been the best, and with the cooler water temps it has not really mattered what time of day it is.
The trout and snook have been taking top-water plugs when the chop is up or during early and late period of the day. Trout also have been happy to eat Rip Tide Brand weedless shrimp over 3-4 foot depths throughout the day. Look for areas holding glass minnows and have a grassy bottom. The reds have been feeding late in the evening in very shallow water (about one foot) and have been taking Rip Tide Brand jerk baits (color = new penny). A few reds have also taken top-water plugs during the morning feed. Snook have been active in shallow water early and very late and taking top-water plugs. During the day target docks and mangroves with Rip Tide Weedless shrimp for snook, reds, and trout. Periods with good water movement either as the result of tide or wind have been the best. Snapper, grouper, and a few flounder have been taking live mullet and shrimp along the inter coastal during incoming tides. Some of the snapper have been up to 8 lbs. and the flounder have been good size.
This time of year is generally a bonanza of action from all species. All it takes is to get out and pitch a bait. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
