Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon Report - Sebastian Area
Hey, the weather has been fairly good (at least the wind has not been blowing 20+ or lightning bolts raining down everywhere) the last few days and the fishing has been very good. Trout have been hitting from first light to well past noon. Snook are still available along mangrove shorelines during various times of the day, but their activity is down from the last month because the bait run has waned and water temps have dropped. Flounder are in the Inlet, but most of them are small. Some larger fish should start showing up in the next few weeks if temps drop.
The trout fishing has been very good. Very early, trout have been taking spooks. Later in the morning and throughout the afternoon jigs and Rip Tide Brand weedless shrimp have been very effective. At times we have been getting hits on just about every cast. Most of the fish are about 15 inches, but nicer fish from 18 to over 22 inches have not been uncommon.
Snook have been taking top-water plugs and live mullet, but the catching has been inconsistent.
Flounder are taking ¼ oz jigs worked aggressively (i.e., bouncing them off the bottom) while drifting the west side of the Inlet. I have been concentrating on the sandy bottom areas. By doing so, the number of hang-ups is greatly reduced. Most of the fish have been around the 12-inch minimum size limit, but you don’t get much meat off these smaller fish, so we have been letting them go. Hopefully, some larger fish will start showing up soon. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
