Central Indian River Lagoon

Capt. Ron Bielefeld
December 14, 2003
Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Report-Sebastian area

Sorry for the gap in reporting, but you know how it is when you get busy. The weather has been variable for good fishing, but on the days when the wind has not been strong and the temps on the warm side we have been catching a lot of trout and snapper and a few reds. In addition, the large southern flounder are in the Inlet. The numbers we have been catching has varied, but the action has been consistent when the tide and wind conditions have been right.

The trout have been congregating on the deeper edges of the flats in the mornings when the water temps have been on the cool side and moving up onto shallow flats by late afternoon. Jigs and live shrimp have been the most productive technique for these fish. Most of the trout we have been catching have been about 15 inches, but 1 in every 10 fish has been over 20 inches.

The snapper have been hitting live shrimp free-lined or on a very light jig. These fish have been located up the Sebastian River along the deeper shorelines. While fishing for snapper we also have been picking up a few small snook.

The reds have been lurking on the shallow flats late in the day and taking Rip-Tide Brand weedless shrimp and live shrimp fished slowly.

The flounder I have been catching have been located on the north side of the Inlet from east of the bridge to the west point of the Inlet. I have been doing well using live shrimp and mud minnows bounced along the bottom using jigs, sliding sinker rigs, or bottom bouncer rigs. I personally like fishing the slack current period.

Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.

Sincerely,

Capt. Ron
