Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon Report-Sebastian Area
The fishing this past couple of weeks has been very up and down. One day the trout and reds are fairly abundant and the next the entire lagoon seems devoid of fish. Despite the rather persistent cool to cold temperatures the water temp has been holding its own in the upper 50s to low 60s. These temps are not optimal, but trout and reds are active at times and some good catches are possible on the shallow flats. The water also is very clear around Sebastian providing opportunities to do some sight fishing, a rare circumstance for this area. If you drift or pole you will optimize your chances of getting close to the fish that are using the very shallow areas. I have been concentrating on shallow water 1-3 feet grass areas and throwing Rip-Tide Brand weedless shrimp and live shrimp. Work these lures and baits slowly to get the most strikes. These areas have not been holding great numbers of fish, but the fish have been larger than those in the deeper areas. All of the redfish we have been encountering have been in shallow water. Hopefully the temperatures will moderate a bit and a stable weather pattern will take hold in the near future. Well, a person can dream. This time of year that is not likely. As long as the weather changes from day to day, so will the success on the flats. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
