Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon Report-Sebastian Area
The fishing this past week has been good, especially for trout. We consistently caught fish to 3 lbs. with several fish over 5 lbs. We took a few reds, but the winds made finding them difficult. The snook bite was off, at least for me. We caught a few small fish, but nothing spectacular. Top-water action for trout was great at times, especially early. Top-water still is and always will be my favorite way of fishing the lagoon. I realize that it is not the best way to catch a lot of reds, and it can be a difficult technique to use for snook near mangroves and docks, but there is nothing like the crashing strikes from trout, snook, and reds that top-water plugs elicite. The reds we have been catching have been in shallow water on the flats or near mangrove shorelines. The snook we caught were out cruising the flats.
As always seems to be the case, the larger trout have been in shallow water of about 1 foot. These fish have been catchable early and late in the day for the most part, but we have caught a few during mid-day when there has been a good chop on the water. The reds have been most active during mid- to late mornings and late in the evenings. We have taken all our reds on Rip-Tide Brand jerk baits. The snook have taken top-water plugs early in the day.
Hopefully the wind will calm down a bit and make fishing some of my redfish and snook areas easier. They are out there to be caught that is for sure. Until-nest time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
