Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon Fishing Report-Sebastian Area
Well this week saw a bit of a slow down in the fishing. Trout were spawning or getting really close to doing so. I believe this accounted for some of the lack of cooperation from this species. Not that we did not catch any, but the action was slower than it had been. We actually caught some really nice fish early and late in the day on top-water plugs such as the Storm Lures Thunder Dog and the Excalibur Super Spook. Snook remained steady with some nice fish coming from mangrove shorelines, docks, and flats on Yo-Zuri Fingerlings and Rapala X-Raps. Redfish were hanging around the shallow flats and mangrove shorelines. Soft plastics such as the Rip-Tide Brand Weedless Shrimp were productive as were the Yo-Zuri 3D Fingerlings. Water temps are up so early mornings and late evenings have been the most productive on the shallow flats. Smaller trout have been catchable in deeper water of about 3-4 feet during the late mornings and snook have been hitting in deeper canals, around docks, and from under mangroves during this time as well. This pattern should remain pretty much unchanged throughout the summer unless, God forbid, something like a hurricane messes it up. We definitely do not need another storm for a while. However, I must say I think the storms of last September cleaned the silt out of the Lagoon in many places improving the bottom conditions. This is just based on personal observation, but in talking with a well-seasoned crab trapper he has seen a big improvement in his catch since the storms. Something happened and it was not all bad. We really do not know much about how nature works. Every time we as humans start thinking we do we make some bad mistakes. We need to learn from the past. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
