Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon Fishing Report-Sebastian Area
Sorry for going so long without a report, but I have been busy fishing, taping TV shows, working, etc. The fishing has been very good at times over the last several weeks when it has not been raining. We have been catching some really nice trout in the 5 lb. range and even a few as large as 8 lbs. They have been hitting top-water very early and late in the day on shallow flats, points, and islands. The best producing plugs have been Rapala Skitter Walks in the new holographic silver color pattern and the Storm Lures Thunder Dog in the red and white. At other times of the day we have been catching some nice redfish and snook on Rip-Tide Brand Flats Chubs in the New Penny color. These have worked well in the areas that are really shallow and have a lot of floating grass. Live shrimp have worked well during mid-day in 3-4 feet of water on the edges of flats and islands. Most of the fish we have been catching using the live shrimp have been small to medium sized trout. When looking for shallow water to fish look for a lot of bait activity. Mullet, glass minnows, and greenies have been fairly abundant. When you find the bait cast a big top-water plug and make as much noise with the lure as you can. You need to get the fishes’ attention if you want them to pick your one lure over all the nature bait swimming around. This pattern of early mornings and late evenings being the hot feeding times will continue throughout the summer. Don’t forget about full moon nights. These are great times to get out on the water when just about no one else is and hang some really nice trout and snook. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
