Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
The weather remains very warm for the end of February in east central Florida. Water temps were in the low 80s today, yes you read it correctly, I said low 80s. As a result, we have been hitting the water just as it starts to get light and having some great action on top-water for trout and a few snook. Usually I go through top-water withdrawal during the winter months, but not so far this winter. Later in the mornings we have been switching to the old stand-bys, the Yo-Zuri 3D Fingerling and the Rip-Tide Weedless shrimp to keep the action going. We have been fishing shallow areas around islands and on the edges of flats early and then switching to drop-offs around islands later in the day. Most of our action has been from trout, but we have been catching a few snook and reds as well. The weather is about to get much colder, but the cold spell is not supposed to last but a couple of days. So, we may be in for some more good action on the top in the near future. Personally, I will take whatever comes our way as long as the wind stays down enough to fish. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
