Guaranteed Fish at the Islamorada Hump

Capt. Kristian Demblans
July 22, 2014
Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

These last two weeks, the Tuna bite at the Hump has been a GUARANTEE. It seems like they are there to stay. The Bite has been excellent. They have been hitting the troll. What seems to work effectively are small squids or small feathers. The color does not seem to be important but the speed of the troll does. We troll slow, between 3.5 to 4.5 kts. Its a no brainer really. If you find the birds working you have the tuna under them. Trolling these small baits near the birds and slow will get great results. The bite at the bottom in deeper waters has improved in the last month. There have been big Grouper such as Yellow Edge and Wreckfish hitting the chicken rig lined up with whole squids at about 550ft. to 600ft.

Islamorada Fishing Forecast:

I know both the tuna and Mahi bite will continue to be solid through out the summer but some bigger fish are showing up and will continue to till the Mahi run slows down.

Target Species:

Blackfin Tuna and Mahi, Mahi
