Islamorada Sea Horse off shore report

Capt. Rick Rodriguez
April 13, 2018
Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

Islamorada Sea Horse Off Shore Report

Off Shore: We have had cooler weather this April compared to previous years in recent history. The cooler weather has affected our fishing in Islamorada in some good ways. We enjoyed a prolonged Sailfish season along the edge of the reef. Many wonderful memories for clients to relish from their list to Islamorada. Other great fish like Wahoos have been caught regularly as well. All anglers love to catch Wahoo; they are truly a cool fish to do battle with. We have been catching Mahi Mahi,"the fish so nice we named it twice". Plenty of smaller fish have been caught. We are waiting for the bigger ones to show up.

Back Country: Captain John Captain Russ, Captain Skip, and Capt Jeremy are the Back Country guides to call when you visit Whale Harbor. They have been catching a variety of sport fish in Florida Bay, and Flamingo's Everglades National Park. Mangrove Snapper, Taarpon, Redfish, Snook, and Sharks have been common catches.

Islamorada Fishing Forecast:

Off Shore Forecast: Mahi have begun to migrate through the Islamorada area in various depths of water. Tell tale places to find Mahi have been in the usual places. Fishing where the fish are makes them less allusive to anglers. Best bet is to venture off shore towards deeper water keeping a careful eye to observe floating debris, working birds, weed lines pushed by a current edge and schools of Mahi them selves. Though sometimes difficult, persistence can prove productive while searching . Hard to resist, however try to avoid other boats that have succeeded in finding fish. Few anglers enjoy sharing their fish with strangers. Even if it is not illegal it's not ethical.

Target Species:

mahi
