Patch Reefs Good

Capt. Marc Toledo
March 4, 2015
Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well our Florida Keys fishing report for this week is warming up after the very cold weather we had a week ago. Islamorada fishing is back to some warm days in the 80's of late. The patch reefs were good during the cold snap with a lot of different fish being caught. Cero, Barracudas, Snappers, Groupers, and a few Hogfish also. The bridges south of us have had a few Tarpon showing up with a couple of 100 lbs. fish caught this week. The cold weather here in the Florida Keys will surely slow down the annual Tarpon migration but we should be seeing fish and we get more into spring conditions inshore. The Tarpon fishing has been fair in the everglades from the reports we got the last few days and the Spanish mackerel fishing has been good in the Gulf Of Mexico. On our offshore charter trips we have been catching some Cobias in the sand. It takes some time and some luck to find these schools of fish in Islamorada, but they have been in the 10 to 40 lbs. range. They are here during the winter and swim with String Rays and if you find a Ray, the Cobias should be with them. The Reef has had a mixed bag of Kingfish, a few Sails, Black Fin Tunas and a couple of Mahi's being caught. The Grouper season is still closed until May 1 but there has been some nice groupers caught while bottom fishing on both live and dead bait.
