Red September

Capt. Steve Friedman
September 26, 2013
Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

September has been "Red" hot so far! Water temperatures are hovering around the mid '80's due in part to some rainstorms that have stalled over the Keys in recent days. Pretty typical for this time of year. I think it's these lower water temps that have held off the hurricanes for the most part (enter in superstitious action here--knock knock) and also kept the fish active. Bonefish and permit have also been a good constant with the right conditions. But it's the redfish that have taken the spotlight this month. Looking forward to some great backcountry action later this week in the annual Herman Lucerne Backcountry Tournament. We'll be searching for many different species in our beautiful backyard also known as the Everglades National Park. The targets will be redfish, bonefish, tarpon, snook, black drum, spotted sea trout, among others. Can't wait. These rainy days have been good for me to tighten up the tackle bench as well as some light maintenance on the boats. See you out there!
