Upper Florida Keys & Islamorada

Capt. Izzy Donatiello

Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

This last two weeks were good ones fishing wise. I made a trip into the gulf for some Spanish Mackerel. The water was very dirty and rough; I moved to a wreak I knew about and caught black groupers up to 8 pounds and Mangrove snappers to 2 pounds. I had an offshore trip, we caught Ballyhoo and slow trolled them along the edge. Our efforts were rewarded with Dorado to 6 pounds. On another off shore trip; we had a very tough time catching some live baits. However, we did manage to get some big King Mackerel to bite on dead ballyhoo on a downrigger. On Thursday, I had a half day gulf trip. The water was again dirty, however, we were able to find some cleaner water. We set up and had non stop action with Trout, Bluefish and nice size Spanish Mackerel. The high light of the trip came when we hooked and after 20 minutes landed a 20 pound Redfish. The red ate a 1/4 jig tipped with a shrimp bounced along the bottom.
