Upper Florida Keys & Islamorada

Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

This last week has been very windy again. However, when I was able to get offshore the fishing was good. There have been real nice dolphin coming up the gulf stream. Last week we were trolling in 450 feet of water. We hooked a fish off a 2 by 4; when a Blue Marlin try to eat it at the back of the boat. The Marlin put on quite a show; making 5 passes at the dolphin no more then 10 feet from the stern. Since the 5 pound dolphin was the largest fish my customers had ever caught to date. We passed on trying to catch the blue; just enjoyed the show. We finished the day with a dozen fish to 25 pounds. No small schoolies were in evidence, which is to my liking. My next dolphin outing was a carbon copy of the first only without the billfish encounter.

I fished some patch reefs in the 20+ mph winds. We caught Mangrove snappers to 2+ pounds, big porgies, Muttons snappers to 15 inch. and Hog snappers. All and all is was a successful trip considering the weather conditions we were fishing under.

The tarpon fishing has been OK. They have been eating both live mullet and dead baits. The fish have all been in the 80 to 100+ pound range. The one we got to the boat last evening was about 90 pounds. The fish are in all the channels, as we get more of a south wind and come off the full moon the fishing should become HOT.

Book a trip with a FULL time pro. call 1-800-320-2753. And reserve a date early.
