Upper Florida Keys & Islamorada

Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing over the last couple of weeks has been great. Last week the Tarpon turned on at the channels and bridges. We caught three on one trip and two on another. The fish range in size from 30 to 90 pounds. The fish should continue to be catchable until the next cold front. The winds have been out of the South and gentle. Which explains why the sail and tuna fishing has taken a nosedive and why we been catching small dolphin. However, the Kingfish still are around; they are not big fish but there is enough. Last week the best action for me was on the reef for snappers and grouper. The water has warmed up and the fishing was good. We caught 3 legal black groupers and a 20 yellowtail snappers to over 3 pounds on one trip and on another trip 2 black groupers and a hand full of 2 to 3 pound yellowtail snappers. On almost every trip; we came in with at less one grouper and a good number of snappers. The centerpiece fish over the weekend was a 40 pound Cobia caught by Lori Javorsky from New Jersey.
