Upper Florida Keys & Islamorada

Capt. Izzy Donatiello

Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing in over the past couple of weeks has been good. The highlight has been the great sailfishing. The fish have been coming through just off the edge of the reef from 90 to 250 feet of water. Any life bait seems to be working. They have been coming up right to the back of the boat eating the live teasers.

The kingfish action last week slowed a bit. The week before there were kings from 15 to 25 pounds in the 100 foot depth. Big live baits were the key to getting them to strike. With the east wind we been having; there also been some dolphin action while we been live baiting for the sails.

The reef has been good the been a mix of cero and spanish macks in the shallow water. yellow tail and mango snapper on the drift and keeper reds and gags grouper on the bottom.

In the back the spanish mackerel fish in the gulf is as good as it gets. There are some kings mixed in with them. Put out as blue runner on a float and hang on. Big blacktip and lemon sharks are following the spanish. Always great to catch for the customers.
