Getting Past the Storms!!!

Capt. James Howard
September 8, 2008
Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well it looks like Ike is going to leave North Florida alone. With all the storms the last several weeks possibly affecting the east coast of Florida not many people have been calling to book fishing trips…

I had a trip with Phil Baker this past Saturday the 6th of September. It was a Flounder gigging and fishing trip. We spent several hours that morning trying to find water clean enough to gig in. It was pretty much a lost cause. We did stick 2 Flounder in the 3 pound range but not quite worth the 3hours of work…

I will tell you that the after affects of Fay are still around as far as the high tides and the water clarity. That should change any time.

As the Sun came up it was off to the creeks to finish the trip. At dead low tide it was almost like a weak high tide. With all the high water the Reds have been tailing in the flooded grass and gorging on marsh Crabs. If you could pick your time to go for the Reds right now the flooded flats along the ICW would be your best bet.

In the 2 hours of fishing we did get into some decent Reds mostly in the 3 pound range. We were working Mud minnows on quarter ounce jig heads along the edges.

When you are on the trolling motor working the edges you do two things. Number one you cover a lot of ground. Number two you will usually catch Flounder and Trout along with the Red fish.

We caught several nice Flounder and a bunch of small Trout.

Thanks for a good time Phil.

Jacksonville Fishing Forecast:

If your into Croaker's they are on fire right now. The big Bull Reds are also staring to show up. The water is trying to clean up and the Reds/Trout and Flounder are doing well. The gigging should be on fire when you can find some clean water.
