Great Time of Year!!!

Capt. James Howard

Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Flounder gigging has been very tough since Tropical Storm Fay came thru 6 weeks ago. The water is still not very clean and the tides are not getting low like they should…

I have done a few trips and it has been hard to find clean enough water to see in. The Flounder are moving and the hook and line has been good in the river and the creeks also.

I feel certain that a lot of the fish are still in the creeks and up the river even though the Mullet have started running they are not moving in massive schools yet.

The big bull Reds are in the river and the jetties just make sure you take some heavy tackle. If you have never caught a Red fish in the 20 to 30lb range you need to book fishing trip with me and catch one. Half crabs and cut Croakers are my favorite baits of choice and cut Lady Fish work very well if you have some.

On a gigging trip this last Friday morning the 6th it was one of those move more than you gig trips. After relocating 4 times in the course of the 4hr trip we stuck only 8 fish. Most of them in the 2lb range with a few in the 4lb range. When this water gets right you should be able to gig what you want size and limit wise.

We have some great looking weather for the rest of the week and I have a few charters that I'm looking forward to. It's time for the big Trout to turn on and the Reds in the back water's should be feeding on a regular basis.

This is a great time of year to fish in North Florida. I have some special discount's going right now on inshore trips so call and get your day booked.
