Hanging in There!!!

Capt. James Howard
December 14, 2009
Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Nothing but rain this past weekend so the boat stayed on the hill. But this week looks great as far as weather the next few days. The highs will be close to 80 with a low tide in the middle of the day. That should make for some good Red fish action in the creeks.

Sunday a week ago it was cold and windy and there were only a few people like myself that had to go fishing…

I ran north to where I had been catching plenty of Trout. My hands were so cold I could hardly cast and Phil was the same way. The wind was blowing about 20 straight at us trying to fish this long stretch of bank in the ICW. I had one bite and Phil caught one small Trout in about an hour. We both wanted to take that long cold ride back to the dock and get in the warm truck!

Not wanting to admit defeat we decided to slip into a little creek that was out of the wind and if the fish weren't there we were going home. I was hoping that the Drum would be in this creek because it was the time of year that I catch a few in there. But with the weather and the way the first spot was I wasn't counting on much.

It's amazing how warm it gets when you start catching fish. It was only a few minutes before we had the first fish on and then it was about 2 hours of non stop action. We caught several small Reds and 3 small Trout and the 2 to 3 pound Drum turned on and we wore them out. There is nothing like catching 2 to 3 pound Drum on light tackle. I'm not sure how many we caught but we had a limit of nice fish and released just as many.
