Inshore/nearshore report Jacksonville area waters

Capt. Bob Cosby
September 9, 2008
Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

We are still "reeling" from the massive rainfall we recieved from hurricane, I mean tropical storm, Fay. The fishing has been very inconsistent around the mouth of the river, which is very dirty and tannine colored. Some tarpon are hanging around the rocks feeding on mullet moving out of the river.

There are bull reds in the deep river in anticipation of the fall spawn. There are also mangrove snapper and croaker. Some flounder and trout are starting to show in the Mayport area. Jacks and ladyfish are fairly plentiful also.

Once the river settles down and the mullet run cranks up, the fishing should be outstanding for trout, flounder, and reds. I'm optimistic that the tarpon will show in greater numbers, too.

Good fishing!
