Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, I'm back from our fall excursion to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. I was fortunate to catch a large Atlantic salmon this trip.
The only downside was missing the best part of the spawning season of the big reds back home. I think they have almost all left the rivers for the open ocean by now.
There are fair numbers of rat reds in the creeks and ICW. My customers caught three larger fish between 26'' and 30'' in the river yesterday. They should also be at the jetty rocks. The sheephead and drum bite has been good recently, also. Lots of bluefish are in the area and can be great fun when you stumble on a feeding frenzy under the birds.
The flounder are moving to the ocean from their summer vacation in the river systems. Some of the best flounder fishing occurs during and after northeasters strike. Try the docks near inlet mouths and around jetties and riprap. Finger mullet or mud minnows are excellent baits.
Both speckled and yellow mouth trout are plentiful in the river. Some of the best reports are coming from west of the Dames Point Bridge. The traditional sliding cork rigs with live shrimp are hard to beat.
Redfish, drum, whiting, bluefish, and pompano are likely catches in the surf, especially when the water clears.
Tight lines!
