Knowing When to Stay Put!!!

Capt. James Howard
March 18, 2010
Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fish in the areas I fished early this week were in the lock down mode. It wasn't a problem finding the Red fish but getting them to bite was almost impossible! One thing I have learned is this time of year if fish in one creek are not feeding they probably are not feeding in the next creek.

But sometimes you end up running around just hoping to hit a school of Reds just right. Knowing in my heart I should just sit on a spot that's holding fish and try to wait them out I still get anxious and start that bouncing around.

After running around for several hours trying to get a Red to bite I settled for trying some different fish. The bite was just slow that morning. After soaking baits in a few spots for some Drum and only catching 3 I finished up the trip throwing plastics for Trout. That's usually an easy bite but even they were off. We did manage to catch 9 Trout but there wasn't a fish over 12 or 13 inches.

We didn't get skunk but it was a slow day with a lot of moving around. Looks like we have a small warming trend for this weekend and with a low tide early I think the Reds should be a little more responsive...
