Jacksonville Fishing Report for Amelia Island & Mayport

Capt. Dave Sipler
August 22, 2003
Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Battle at the Bar!

The battle's at the bar???

That's St. Johns River bar, or what the old timers call the inlet.

It's ready to go folks. BIG REDS, don't be fooled, by a mere 28 incher. I'm talking 28 pounder!

Go with someone who specializes in these fish, has the right tackle, and know how.

From April till usually the second week in November,

I target these fish. Just not during the fall when they are the "thing to do" by other guides. I've already had my "game" hat on for months.

If we didn't have this stupid cold water thing happen to us this summer, I would have caught 100's of whoppers by now.

And instead of releasing only 5 Tarpon to 110 pounds which was pathetic, I should of had 55. I tried all summer but the water was so cold.

But since the waters have warmed a bit, the tarpon will show cause there's that, "having to feed" thing going on. The bait is there, and it's that time of year which they can't ignore.

Here's a great quote:

"The best fisherman in the world is a pole holder and a circle hook."

And that makes you successful when fishing with Capt. Dave (me) or my other captains.

Your trophy fish is important. And so are the fish, so being a catch & release fishery for these big breeder Redfish. A circle hook works wonders.

From billfish to Redfish and a whole lot more...

I believe in them, and always reccomend the use of them.

Bait is everywhere. Pogies, a Big Redfishes Favorite meal. Mullet, they are everywhere. (if you know where to find them consistantly.) Not lil finger mullet, but big juicey mullet. That a Tarpon, Shark or big Red would love to dine on.

So if, SIZE DOES MATTER, give me a call.

Cause it's just not a motto, it's sort of a religion to me.

Please visit my web site where I post "recent catch" photos. That's the proof of the pudding. I have a new batch of pics ready to go up there real soon.

And your smile and "whopper" could be up on there also, just give me a call.

Till next tide, go catch some FEESH!

Capt. Dave

More Fishing Reports:

Inshore fishing the St. Johns River, and estuaries around Jacksonville, Florida provides year round opportunities for Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Black Drum, and Sheepshead to name just a few. Plus, seasonal favorites such as Shark, Tripletail and Pompano. The legendary Mayport Jetties are mile long piles of huge granite boulders that protect the inlet to the St. Johns River from the Atlantic Ocean. Around these jetties is some of the best and most consistent fishing.
