You have to love North Florida

It has been a great February in North Florida weather wise. You never know what to expect this time of year. We are in the mist of a little blow right now but we have had plenty of nice days……

A lot of times this time of the year you can find the birds diving on bait scraps which means there are usually Trout and Blue fish chewing them up. All you have to do is get near them and let the boat drift along throwing anything and you will load the boat.

I prefer a jig with a plastic because it is quicker to get one hook out of a fish and make the next cast. The fish are mostly on schools of 4 to 5 inch Ribbon fish.

Fishing with Gary and Brenda Corwin this past Sunday the 10th we ran into a school of Trout feeding on the bait pod. After following them for about an hour they started to spread out but not until we had caught at least 40. The average size was only 14 inches or so but it was still a lot of fun.

We then moved to a little deeper water to do some float fishing with live shrimp. There were not a whole lot of Trout there but they were very nice. We caught 7 Trout in the 4 plus pound range and Brenda bagged a Flounder also.

Things are surely on the way to changing as far as the season goes and the Red fish will soon be a prime target. All in all it has been a pretty good winter. How bad can it be when you can fish all year and always bend a rod. Beats drilling a hole in the ice……….
