No Shortage of Heat or Fish!

Capt. James Howard
June 5, 2010
Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Flounder gigging has been up and down even though the other night we did get 17 fish. Last week we gigged for 3 hrs and only saw a few Flounder. The Sheepshead have been everywhere in the creeks but they are hard to gig!

The Red fishing remains off the charts in the creeks. It doesn't matter what bait you thro at them they are ready to pull some string. There are lots of nice slot size fish with plenty over size ones mixed in…

The cobia are still on the beach along with plenty of bait pods. With the water temp so warm the Tarpon are starting to show up also. I saw 3 Tarpon the other day in the back waters so its time to keep some heavy tackle on the boat. A big live mullet or a live crab seems to work good for me. Top water baits also are effective on the Tarpon.

The larger Trout have been good but they should be in full force soon as the shrimp start moving towards the ocean. The deeper drops in the river have worked best for me and I have had several Trout in the 5 pound range…
