Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report
The week before Easter was one big BLOW as far as the wind. I had to cancel 3 trips during the week because it was just too strong. When I say to strong for inshore I mean 25 plus knots. This has certainly been a true March as in the old saying March Winds!!!!
I was able to do my trip on Saturday and the weather was nice. We worked several schools of Reds but only catching a few of the smaller fish. There were some nicer fish mixed in with the small ones but they didn't want shrimp or mud minnows.
We moved into the river to do some float fishing for Trout and had some luck but only one nice Trout about 4 pounds. Those fish should show up anytime in full force.
We also caught a few Yellow mouth Trout and 2 Black Drum about 16 inches.
I decided to get some blue crabs for my trip on Sunday and see if the larger Reds would hit those….
My clients called me at 7:15 am to let me know they had to forfeit there money and they wouldn't make it. Well that was too bad for them because the crab was the ticket. Since I was already in the water I decided to go try the crab baits on that school of Red fish I was on the day before.
Before I could get a second rod out the first one was bent to the water. It was on. I sat there by myself and caught 8 Reds in the 7 to 9 pound class and had a ball. I was able to keep one that wasn't over sized so it was blackened Red fish at my house on Easter instead of Ham!!
Till next time tight lines Capt. James Howard (904)651-9557
