IT'S T-ROUT TIME!!!!!!!!!

Capt. Dave Sipler
March 3, 2011
Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's Trout time alrighty.

And even though the first two days of March were like fishing in a Hurricane. And mother nature really didn't want us to catch any Trout.

We pushed on her as hard as we could. Usually the re-opening of Speckled Trout season for NE Florida (March 1st) is nasty. My log books show that usually the first week of March is windy or either raining.

So it was the norm for this March 1st, also.

The long awaited taste of a nice Speck fillet hitting the peanut oil after a bath in Zaterains fish fry mix, and a cold PBR after a long day on the river, is all I dream of.

Well day one was just a one spot wonder. It's all we had to hit, and all we could hit, because of the 20 kt sustained Small Craft Advisory conditions. But we banged a few fatties up to 20 inches.

Here's the video of it, and the lure color I used that was just plain FUN to repeat:

Then, on the second of March I had the Ballinger crew.

Same deal, 20 kts in the morning and no where to fish except one spot, to stay "sort of" out of the wind.

But it was worse than the day before. The NEW moon tide was even stronger. Coupled with the wind pushing the tide it was all we could do to actually fish......with our hats ON!

But we prevailed. And caught some. Just enough for a dinner for the group.

We couldn't have done any better if we used hand granades, the conditions were so evil.

SOOOO, can ya imagine how good it can be if we get some light winds and fishable conditions??

Either way, It's Time To Trout Fish.

The inlet aka: the Mayport Jetties usually starts to produce some absolute whoppers, by mid March. I've caught Trout to 10 pounds looking at the Jetty rocks. And a off day is when we don't have a fish or two pushing 5 pounds.

Along with the Trout come Reds, Sheepshead and Black Drum.

NOW, IS THE TIME TO START BOOKING YOUR TIDE FOR FISHING THE MONSTER BLACK DRUM.

I've caught them 90, 65, 45, 30 pounds. BUT, I like a certain tide on a certain spot. So dragging your feet may not be the best idea to get the best tidal days.

Sport Fishing for Trout, or Bottom fishing for monster Drum, sight casting for beach Tripletails, there's alot on our plate to do as Spring starts to really roll into NE Florida.

Jacksonville, Jacksonville's beaches, and Amelia Island will have plenty of near-shore and inshore fishing for you this spring.

Give me a ring, and I'll set you up.
Capt Dave,

More Fishing Reports:

Inshore fishing the St. Johns River, and estuaries around Jacksonville, Florida provides year round opportunities for Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Black Drum, and Sheepshead to name just a few. Plus, seasonal favorites such as Shark, Tripletail and Pompano. The legendary Mayport Jetties are mile long piles of huge granite boulders that protect the inlet to the St. Johns River from the Atlantic Ocean. Around these jetties is some of the best and most consistent fishing.
