Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Holy smokes has the river around Mayport where I depart from been jam packed with big fat Croakers, that have become "Addictive" to my charter clients.

Yes, they aren't monster "glory" fish. But many of the Croak's are big as far as Croak's go...

I've tried sitting and bait and waiting for some over sized 30 pound Redbass. And being that this last week charters have all been 4 passenger type trips. Some people just don't want to wait.

The problem has been that they get a "taste" of instantaneous action, aka: "I.G." and that's what they want to do.

So, I take them to the "hole" and it's a fish fest! One after another as fast as they can cast out and set the hook, the Croaker's come flying over the side of the boat, 4 at a time.

I run around the console taking them off the hooks with a gloved hand, care of the best invention since the fishing rod, the JUS' GRAB IT GLOVE (www.justgrabitglove.com) hand them another piece of shrimp and continue my rounds.

Thursday 10/20 it was sheerr MAYHEM...I had 4 guys from Ohio on the Jettywolf and they were fish hungry. It was 20-25 knot west winds. So we couldn't do much else.

These guys filled 2 coolers with an estimated 280 CROAKERS!!!!!

Thank goodness they didn't ask me to clean all those. The answer would have been, "Sorry, I have a charter tomarrow I'll need to get some sleep."

Then, on Friday the 21st of October I had a wedding party, 3 boats, 3 anglers per boat. I had the Groom and his two buddies aboard.

We tried getting a BIG Redbass, but they said this is too boring...."LETS GO BACK AND HIT THAT CROAKER HOLE AGAIN!"

We had no less than 75, and kept 20 of the largest ones. UP TO 16 INCHES, which is a sweet Croak on light tackle.

-Addictive
-Fun
-Fun for all ages
-Fun for your fishing guide too
-I love catching them big ones.

In between all the Croakers mayhem. We've had some nice Black Drum at the inlet (jetties)

NOW...all the way thru February is MY time of year. I love the cool days and the fishing it brings. DRUM, TROUT, REDS, CROAKERS. They're all great sport.

More Fishing Reports:

Inshore fishing the St. Johns River, and estuaries around Jacksonville, Florida provides year round opportunities for Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Black Drum, and Sheepshead to name just a few. Plus, seasonal favorites such as Shark, Tripletail and Pompano. The legendary Mayport Jetties are mile long piles of huge granite boulders that protect the inlet to the St. Johns River from the Atlantic Ocean. Around these jetties is some of the best and most consistent fishing.
