Jupiter - Saltwater Fishing Report
Record number sailfish!
Almost 300 sailfish were caught by 48 boats in the "Silver Sailfish Derby", held over last weekend. Even though my boat was not an entry, we fished 4 hours Friday and caught 2, and 8 hours Sunday and went 3 for 3 with sails all over 50 lbs. The wind died early Sunday, so the kite was grounded for us. Those who used a helium balloon to keep the kite in the air scored higher numbers than those trolling ballyhoo or those live baiting from the riggers or flat lines. One boat had 15 fish on Sunday. Anyway, that’s old news by now and who knows what the rest of the season will be like. Another cold front just passed through, so it should remain steady if not better than in recent years.
Dolphin, kingfish and wahoo have been incidental catches for those sailfishing. We had several cut offs and had a few goggle eyes mangled, so the toothy critters are out there. We concentrated on sails in 130 feet from the "stacks" to end of the condos. We heard reports of scattered dolphin south of Palm Beach Inlet in 200 feet. Southeast winds are forecasted for the next couple of days so I would expect dolphin fishing to be good. Kings have been off the Breakers, Lost Tree and the Juno Pier, 70-90 feet and out deeper during the full moon period.
Get out and enjoy it when the weather is good, you won’t be disappointed.
