Jupiter - Saltwater Fishing Report
Winter weather looms on.
Small boat fishing has been extremely tough over the week or so. Many boats in Jupiter have been making the hour long run south through the intracoastal waterway, also known as "the ditch", to leave out of Palm Beach Inlet. Large sandbars have formed north and south of Jupiter inlet. Large swells have been breaking on the bars creating hazardous conditions for all boats leaving and entering the inlet. I would trailer my boat down to Palm Beach to save time and gas.
Anyone fishing the south jetty of Jupiter inlet should be aware a fairly large part of the safety railing has been broken off by the massive swell we had last weekend. I witnessed an unsuspecting jogger run out to the end of the jetty, only to be swept off by a large wave into the drink, he was lucky to escape with only a few cuts and bruises. Generally, if you see surfers out, and all the fisherman standing in the parking lot and nobody on the jetty, it's safe to assume conditions are too dangerous to venture out the end.
Fishing has been decent for those putting in the effort. Many wahoo have been caught, dolphin are starting to show on a fairly consistent basis and sailfish have been around in good numbers. Most boats are getting shot or two at sailfish live baiting from 120-200 feet of water.
Kingfish have been around as well, but the full moon has shut down the daytime bite.
Amberjack are being caught off the deeper wrecks using heavy weights and live bait or deep jigging.
I'll be getting my new Bluewater 2350 Friday, it looks as if this weekend's weather might keep me from taking her out on her maiden voyage into the Atlantic, but I'll be running up and down the ICW showing her off. Next week when the wind dies I'm going to get out for dolphin. See you on "the edge"!
