New Year to Tangle with Snook and Tarpon

Capt. Craig Korczynski
January 2, 2012
Jupiter - Saltwater Fishing Report

The inshore fishing for many anglers has been red hot, as they chase down tarpon in the back bays and canals. The tarpon have been very active allowing anglers many shots using live baits and artificial lures. The tarpon can be seen rolling near the surface early in the morning and as the sun is setting. Light tackle is blast while fighting these tarpon which are averaging 5 to 20 pounds.

The snook fishing even though closed is spectacular. Anglers can use live baits and artificial lures for productive results. It is not uncommon to catch 15 to 30 snook in an outing. Look for moving water and good structure and the fish will find your bait. The average size of the snook has been 2 to 15 pounds.

The grass flats is a great spot for anglers and families to target ladyfish, sheepshead and pompano. Live shrimp and jigs tipped with shrimp will definitely produce some species of fish. Try and locate fish on your sounder and work depths from 2 to 8 feet. Popping corks are a great alternative for kids to use, as they can see when the fish strikes allowing for better hook ups.

Well that is the fishing report for the past week hope you all enjoyed. Remember you cant catch them from the couch, so get out there and get hooked up. Tight lines! Capt. Craig Korczynski, PhlatsInshoreFishing.com 561-644-4371
