Crazy Kingfish, Tuna and Sailfish Bite

Capt. Quinton Dieterle
June 7, 2009
Key Biscayne - Saltwater Fishing Report

The last couple of days on the Cutting Edge have been incrediable. The action Friday and Saturday was the best I have seen in years. I don't think either day we had time to get all the lines out with out a bite. Friday Cap running the boat had a bunch of nice kings, Some making 25 pounds. He said he also had some nice Black Fin tuna, one 34 pounds. He also said he made a drop on one of his secrete wrecks and got some amberjack and one Black Grouper that weighed 27 pounds. The Sailfish action Friday was not as good but there were some fish around. Saturday we fished the Miami Dolphns Charity Tournament. It was fun fishing and everybody had a great time. We started off fishing just north of Fowey, The kings were eating us up in 100 to 120 ft. Most of the fish were in the 8 to 10 pound class. We had some that went up to 18 pounds and missed some that were bigger. The action was crazy, you could not put a rod down before the drag was screaming out. The best bait was live pilchards. Fishing for total weight with a 8 pound min. we had to catch something bigge so we ran south to Triumph Reef were the Tunas had been the last couple of days. The tunas were there, Problem though, not behind our boat. We were Stung with really bad tuna luck. Nothing we could do to get a tuna to bite worked. Though our efforts did reward us with 4 Sailfish and more kings. It is funny how that works, the day before when we did not need a Tuna we caught them at will>Thanks Fishing. We ended up with 134 pounds of Kingfish, 50 bonito, 4 Sailfish and 4 Dolphn. Oh and some sore ams. Thanks for reading our report !
