Miami and Key Biscayne – offshore

Capt. Quinton Dieterle
September 3, 2003
Key Biscayne - Saltwater Fishing Report

Weekend Excitment

This past weekend, though rough was filled with Dolphin Action, and a good sailfish bite was happening on the edge. With the winds in excess of 20 knots on Saturday and Sunday the seas were a bit choppy but the Dolphin were there. We found our fish in 400 to 800 ft. and some in as close as 200 ft. They were tough to stay with and at time tough to get to eat. We found tossing small strips and little pilchards worked best. The fish were in the 3 to 5 pound range. We did have a few 20 pound fish but those we found on a board. On the edge Capt. Neil said the sailfish action was good. He fished only a couple of hours and had three bites. I guess with the strong wind from the east it had some bait pushed in and the sailfish followed. Bait has been tough but if you use persistance you should find some around the markers and patches.
