Key Biscayne - Saltwater Fishing Report
Mid June Report
Swordfishing has been slow for most of the fleet out there. We have fished 6 times since my last report and caught fish 4 times. They have all been under 120lbs, but at least we are getting multipul bites in a night. Last night we went out just for 1 drift and ended up going 0-2 losing a good fish after about 25 minutes of the fishing pulling line off steady. Hopefully the bite stays good for the tourney this weekend.
Now lets talk about some of the great dolphin fishing we have been having. Seems like most of the bigger fish have moved on, but we are still getting the schoolies and some decent fish in the 10-25 lb range. Last saturday we fish a tourney ran all over, caught plenty of fish, but lost the winning fish next to the boat. She would have went about 25-30 lbs. There have also been quite a few marlin around, i have seen 2 in the past 3 weeks, and i got a few e-mails from a couple of guys who say that they caught a couple of blue marlin while out dolphin fishing.
Now on the reef there are plenty of bonita around, the kings are still biting well, and there are still a few blackfin's around. The smoker kings are moving in. Last friday we caught a 56lb smoker, and 4 other kings in the 15-30 lb range. Fishing is definetly strong off of miami right now, hopefully it continues.
Next month i will be spending some time over in the islands doing all kinds of fishing from tuna and marlin to snapper and grouper. My charter has cancled on me for the Islamorada Swordfish Tourney this year so if anyone is interested please give me a call and i will fill you in. Its a great tourney out of the Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada. Check it out at MiamiSwordfishTournament.com . I still have some days left in june so if you want to give swordfish a shot, or if you want to get on some of those dolphin offshore give me a call!
Tightlines,
Capt Joe
