Its great to be fishing the flats

Key Largo - Saltwater Fishing Report

This time of year the winds pick up and make it uncomfortable to brave the big blue ocean. The best part about the areas we fish in the backcountry is that they are typically protected from the 20-25 knot winds that hammer the open reef edge. We took a trip yesterday afternoon, the winds layed down and it was a beautiful afternoon on Florida Bay. The mullet have started to thin out, but its a great time to take advantage of the fish that are still stuffing themselves. We watched the Red Full Moon come up over the eastern magrove shoreline and it was like a switch turned on. The fish started popping all over the place. In a short time we landed ladyfish, snook, and tarpon. We called it a day as the temperature started dropping and the wind began to pick up and were back at the dock after a 20 minute ride.

Key Largo Fishing Forecast:

Cooler temperatures mean big shrimp. The local bait shops will have a great selection of these go to baits. You will hear the snook slurping these guys as they swim in the current. Be sure to book you trips in advance as we are getting into the busy season. Don't be the one going home without a story to tell because you weren't able to find an available Guide at the last minute. Give us a call @ 407-808-0405 or visit www.ankledeepadventures.com with any questions.

Target Species:

Redfish Snook Trout Tarpon
