Key Largo Reef Fishing 3/2/10
Cold fronts continue to roll in to the keys at a rate of about 2 a week in the last 14 days. Fishing on the inside has been holding up when done on the incoming tide. A good bite of cero and Spanish macks, assorted jacks, shark and a good number of grouper out there. Most are red grouper and a good number of fish being legal size although the season is closed for the first time ever till April. Some black and gag grouper as well on the inside, but most of these fish are short. the snapper bite is there as well with lanes, mangrove and muttons but you have to get the tide right.
Out a few miles more beyond the reef line has been very consistent with a mixed bag of species. On a 5 hour trip yesterday we made a few sits in the deeper water and found fish on the bottom on every spot. Hogfish, yellowtails, barjacks, big porgys

,assorted Grouper, and bunch of other stuff made for fast action while fishing the bottom. Free lining on the top (fishing with no or very little weight in the chum line) we landed a 18 lb Black fin on 12 lb test.

Lots of assorted jacks as well on top yesterday with yellowtails and a few macks mixed in. Its certainly winter here in the keys as another cold front will come threw tonight.
Tight lines Capt. Bob
