Tavernier Fishing Report Dolphin, Wahoo and Black Groupers

Capt. Ryan Van Fleet
June 14, 2018
Key Largo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing off Tavernier has been great. Being out of Tavernier I have the opportunity to fish North or South. Finding the purple color water with lots of bait is the Key to finding the bigger fish. We are catching our limits of smaller school size dolphin pretty easily but getting the big ones is a different story.

I am finding bigger dolphin in the 20-30lb range on most trips, but it is not easy. Not to mention we are getting them close to home without traveling past 8 miles. Having good live bait to pitch at the them is the key as they are starting to shy away from dead bait offerings as they always do this time of year. The bigger fish closer to the reef are chewing on flying fish there are not many of them, but knowing where to look at the right time has been the key to catching them.

We are getting some nice Yellowtails along the reef on the outgoing tides along with some nice size Black Groupers.

Good Karma will be equipped with a Seakeeper very soon. We will be offering an amazing fishing experience, combine a Seakeeper with Seadek flooring and you are in for one heck of fishing experience, it will be like fishing on a rock in the ocean watching the waves crash around without the boat moving, 98% roll reduction on a 24ft!

Key Largo Fishing Forecast:

Dolphin all depends on the migrations. We usually get a nice push of big fish on the June full moon, but we will be Snapper and Grouper fishing on this moon mostly as that is what my clients have requested.

Tell me what you like to do and I customize the trip for you. We don't have to go on the "drag and snag". I try to make dolphin fishing fun by bringing along live bait. I have all my live bait delivered to the boat prior to the charter at no extra costs. I will not waste your time or money bait fishing this time of year bait gets tough so I have it delivered prior to you arrive and I cover the costs not you!
