Key West Fly and Spin Fishing Report Captain Steve Hancock

Capt. Steve Hancock
February 9, 2014
Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing in the Lower Keys and Key West have been excellent for Barracuda, Jacks, Sharks, and Permit on both fly and spinning gear. The 4 th annual Cuda Bowl was as usual a fun and exciting tournament that I participated in superbowl weekend. Its the friday and saturday before super bowl sunday every year. Its 2 days of fast reeling and long casts for the toothy critters of the flats known as the barracuda or "cuda". These fish are lightning fast and love to jump. They will take you into your backing on fly and will make your drag scream on spinning gear. Mr. Permit has also been showing up good with the right tide and weather conditions. Tarpon fishing should pick up as the spring season progresses with warmer water conditions Prime months for large migratory Tarpon are March through June.I look forward to getting you to any of these flats species. They all have their own angling appeal.
