Mahi and Mini Season

Capt. Eric Evans
August 8, 2022
Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Florida Keys have been staying busy still. We had some Mahi tournaments in May and June and had some nice fish come across the scales! For most people the schoolies were around so made for fun fishing for everyone. In July we saw many more wahoo then I was expecting! The winds started blowing again so haven't been making to many offshore trips recently.

We are on the last day of mini season and there is a floating city in the Gulf of Mexico! It is not as bad as last year but still have plenty of boats going after the bugs! First day seemed like everyone did well catching the limit or getting darn close! Every year the last Wednesday and Thursday of July is mini season so keep that in the calendar if you are the snorkeling type.

Reef and wrecks have been really good with groupers, gray snappers, yellowtails, muttons, and ceros. I say this often but it is worth repeating. If one species isn't happening we have options in Key West. If the wind blows a certain way we can find the calm most of the time!

The bay boat has been a great addition for many folks. The tarpon fishing was excellent in may and June. Sharks were the second most popular request and they were not shy!
