October brings Cooler Water and Happy Fish at Sunset.

Capt. Dexter Simmons
October 16, 2016
Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report

October usually brings a cooling trend that turns the Bonefish and Permit on!I really enjoy fishing the sunset tides for tailing Bonefish or Permit because the wading can be extra special. On numerous occasions the biggest Bonefish and Permit have tailed in front of us during sunset or dusk on the sea grass banks.

Many tailing Permit are found on grassy flats near channels and drop-offs during sunset and dusk. They seem to be less guarded when the sun is going down and more likely to feed. Here is a nice Permit taken in a late day of fishing the grassy flats.

Anyone who regularly fly fishes for Tarpon knows that the Silver King is often active early in day and late in the day, during sunrise and sunset times of day. It is highly likely that if you are lucky enough to find and catch the tailing Bonefish and Permit at sunset or dusk, then you might also be able to locate some rolling Tarpon near a channel, basin or mangrove creek before darkness settles in.

Imagine the joy of catching a GRAND SLAM between sunset and dusk! It has been done before and it will be done again!!!
