Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Fishing Report. Feb. 1, 2010. New Reports are in that quicken the heart beat of avid Permit anglers. Kingfish tournament aerial spotters have seen thousands of Permit swimming toward the Keys from the deep Gulf of Mexico. Apparently these cagy Great Pompano retreated to the deeper wrecks in the Gulf during the cold early January weeks so they could feed and survive the cold spell in the warmer Gulf waters. Cobia also have been seen in good numbers as of late, and on Saturday we had our way with this nice 25 pound Cobia.

Despite the January cold spell, we are still catching baby Tarpon in the creeks! Here is an 11 pound Tarpon jumping this morning for angler Hank. The Tarpon was fooled with a Tarpon Cheeseburger fly.December featured some great Bonefish and Permit fishing. Here is Dave McComb with a beautiful Permit.
