Key West and Lower Keys

Capt. Dexter Simmons
December 8, 2000
Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report

Jacks and Cudas Rule! (Until the Flats Warm, Then Back to the Grand Slams!)

Big Jack Crevalle have invaded the flats as of late and they are very willing fish, providing action on the flats in cooler water. Barracuda are also turned on right now. When the temperatures move into the high 70's during the afternoons, then the Bonefish and Permit show on the channel edges or on the flats in singles, small pods and sometimes larger schools. The Tarpon action is fairly slow right now, however we should see a push of Gulf Tarpon in the Key West Harbor area during the next couple of months. In between cold fronts, when the water warms up to the mid to high 70's, we will see more Tarpon, Bonefish and Permit. In the meantime, there are some great Barracuda out there for all of us. Before you travel to the Keys, call Capt. Dexter Simmons for a live report 305-745-3304. Tight Lines and Screaming Reels!
