Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report

Winter is a Mixed Bag!

Winter fishing in the Keys provides anglers with a mixed bag of Atlantic and Gulf species. This is the time of year when we are able to catch Spotted Sea Trout as well as Ladyfish, Jack Crevalle, Pompano, Mackerel, Barracuda, Shark, Bluefish and False Albacore (Little Tunny) as pictured below. To target the mixed bag, keep an eye out for muds in the backcountry basins and for birds hovering over schools of feeding fish near the Gulf flats and channels. In between cold fronts, we are also able to catch the big three: Tarpon (as pictured below), Bonefish, and Permit. Our first push of Gulf Tarpon have now arrived in the backcountry channels. The best fishing for these Silver King will be in between cold fronts during warming periods. Patient anglers will find some laid up fish on the banks at the edges of the channels. Permit and Bonefish will also be available on the flats as the water warms into the 70's.Our Father (Mother) - Son (Daughter) Key West Flats Fishing Trips are now scheduled for throughout the summer, fall and winter.
