Key West and Lower Keys

Capt. Dexter Simmons
January 7, 2005
Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report

2005 Bonefish

January 7, 2005Happy New Year!Tom Smithey brought 2005 into perspective with a multiple Bonefish day on the flats with Captain Dexter.Tom and his wife Kathy spent just a half day on FlatsMaster and managed to hook up several juvenile Bones..The young schoolie Bonefish of 2-3 lbs. were hungry little fellas in the 69 degree water off of Key West.Tom also managed to catch a few Cero Mackerel, a Grouper, and some Jacks on fly. From now thru the Spring months the Tarpon, Permit and Bonefish bite should begin to heat up with warmer temps.Casting from the foredeck of "FlatsMaster" in THE CAGE gives anglers additional height and stability so they may easily spot fish in the clear, shallow waters of the Keys. December, January and February are generally great months to catch Permit, Barracuda, Shark, Jack Crevalle, Pompano, Sea Trout, Ladyfish, and Lane Snapper. Bonefish and Tarpon are also available with mild weather. So plan your trip now. Tarpon like the one above landed by Louis Eagle, will be moving into Keys waters in January, February, March and April.Permit are available all winter and spring here in the Keys. Bonefish will be schooling all over flats as the water temps rise to the mid to high 70's. Our Father (Mother) - Son (Daughter) Key West Flats Fishing Trips are now scheduled for throughout the summer, fall, winter, and spring. For more information about the Father and Son Flats Fishing Trips go to http://www.keywestflyfishing.com You may contact Capt.
